Community Outreach
At Explorers Schools, we recognise the importance of integrating community service into our curriculum to foster social responsibility and empathy in our young learners. Through service learning activities, our students benefit the communities around us and gain invaluable learning experiences.
We value and prioritise the integration of community service into our curriculum to foster social responsibility and empathy in our young learners. Our community service projects help our explorers to develop essential life skills such as teamwork, communication and problem-solving while broadening their understanding of local and global issues. Moreover, participating in service activities has helped cultivate a sense of belonging and connection in our community, reinforcing values like compassion, kindness and civic engagement from an early age.
ANNUAL BIKE-A-THON:
Explorers Schools’ Parent Initiative Programme (PIP) hosts an annual Bike-A-Thon in support of a different organisation each year. This exciting family event emphasises the value of community outreach for the children, as they collect pledges per lap and ride their bikes around a designated course. Beyond this, the rest of the community rallies around the children and the partnership organisations. By generously donating pledges, donating raffle items and buying raffle tickets, our community truly comes together to break barriers, model empathy and support amazing organisations.
AKOSOMBO INCLUSIVE HUB:
The Akosombo Inclusive Hub is a Non-Profit Educational Centre (Akosombo Inclusive Hub) for students with special needs. It serves as both a school for day students and an orphanage. Explorers Schools has developed a strong and ongoing relationship with the Hub, with the intention to expand the support we can provide moving forward. They were the beneficiaries of the Santa Sack Drive of 2023, with the school community donating food, toys, educational materials, toiletries and household items.
DECEMBER SANTA SACK DRIVES:
During December, we organise ‘Santa Sack’ drives to benefit various organizations. Our school community has generously come together in recent years to donate essential items such as stationery, toys, food, toiletries and cleaning supplies. We are eager to expand this initiative to reach more groups and communities.
KINBU COMMUNITY NURSERY:
With the money raised from the 2022 Bike-A-Thon, Explorers’ Schools was able to sponsor the renovation and upgrade of Kinbu’s facilities, benefiting 120 children and many more to come. With support from Chance for Childhood, Kinbu serves as a solace for children whose future is uncertain and supports their development in a safe and warm environment.
The CHILD RELIEF FUND:
Our Child Relief Fund is a community-centred fundraising organisation aimed at providing emergency care for young children experiencing severe pain. Many children have benefitted from this fund at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital Pediatric Burns Unit by receiving vital medical support during their time of need. Our students make art to sell at our events, for which all proceeds go towards supporting this cause.
RAILWAY COMMUNITY SCHOOL:
In 2023, the Bike-A-Thon sponsored the rennovations of the Railways Community Nursery, which is a hub for many children of the Kayayo girls of Kantamanto Market. By speaking with the school administration and the mothers of the Kantamanto community, we were able to focus our efforts on creating a safe, nurturing and sustainable educational environment. Through this initiative, in addition to several generous individual donors within our community, we were able to fund eight refurbished classrooms, a new library and a state-of-the-STEAM room.
A word from our Brand Ambassador and devoted parent, Mrs. Christal Beeko:
“I'm thrilled to highlight the remarkable changemakers at Explorers Schools. Our institution is dedicated to driving positive change through various outreach initiatives. One that holds a special place in my heart is our Annual Bike-A-Thon, led by our students. This student-led initiative empowers our children to advocate for community involvement, and witnessing their passion and dedication is truly inspiring.
Their determination and enthusiasm are remarkable as they collect pledges and pedal with all their might on the day of the Bike-A-Thon.
Over the past two years, our parents and children have achieved tangible results, raising funds to renovate, refurbish, and upgrade Kinbu Nursery and the Railway Community Nursery, supporting street children in our community.
Through these experiences, our children embody our school's Core Values: innovative thinking, compassionate leadership, and lifelong learning. I'm immensely proud of the impact our students have made and confident that they will continue to be catalysts for positive change in our society."
